RE: General Membership Meeting Summary Report for  April 17th, 2024


The following notes represent my personal summary of the April General Membership Meeting and ARE NOT OFFICIAL MINUTES. They are for the express purpose of keeping the members informed in a timely fashion. Since minutes must be approved at a subsequent General Membership Meeting, any updates which would require the use of the actual minutes would result in updates being one-month old.

The following was approved at the April meeting:

  • Minutes of the March 20th, 2024 meeting 
  • The financial statement ending March 31st, 2024 and the disbursements of $103,840.45.   Our receipts were in excess of our disbursements by $3,808.47.  This resulted in our General Account being positive by $126,061.79.

The following motions were approved:

 

·      1) Motion – Approve a donation of $1000.00 to Muscular Dystrophy Canada

       2) Motion  -  Approve a donation of $1300.00 plus tax to support the annual fundraiser for Thrive

       3) Motion  - Approve a donation of $150.00 to take care of the garden boxes at the Local 2251 Office.

       4) Motion  -  Approve the cost of two season tickets for the Soo Greyhounds.  Tickets for the games will be drawn at the GMM for

                                those who attend the meeting.

      5)  Motion  -  Approve a donation of $419.00 plus tax to support Courageous K9's to help provide certified service dogs to our

                                military veterans and first responders.   

             

President's Report


-   Mike spoke about the meeting he attended with Ross Romano


-   Mike spoke on a potential lawsuit with the Group Health Centre


-   Discussion on TransWest and TransEast took place  (sale or joint venture)


-   Mike also spoke on the the 106" Plate Mill.  He stated that ramp down will be in October.  By March 2025 there will be

     25 - 30 employees.


-  Mike spoke on the upcoming Rally's that will be taking place on Monday May 13th, 2024 at 4:00 pm at City Hall and on

    Thursday, May 30th, 2024 at the Roberta Bondar Pavilion at 12 noon. 


-  Nominations will be accepted next GMM May 15, 2024 for District 6 Conference to be held July 8th - 12th, 2024 in St. John's,

    Newfoundland and Labrador.  We will be sending three members.  Election will be held on May 28th at the Union Hall. 

    Hours to be determined.


The next General Membership Meeting will be held on  May 15th, 2024 at the Delta Hotel at 7:30 pm.
